Acknowledged Isabell and Taking Back Our Lives Gallery Show. Kudos were given to Isabell. The Daily Telegram article was passed around. I made a statement that we should look at this show as a model for success. Her show had over 100 visitors without using cards. The community was heavily involved. And, the reception was well supplied with donated food items.
An application was handed out for The Circle of Art fundraising art auction for The Foodgatherers in Saline. We want to encourage members to participate in this fundraiser to learn how a successful art auction is ran. We hope to apply the same success to our upcoming LCVA Box Show Auction this summer. Carol volunteered to take art work to the Saline Picture Frame Company as she travels to Saline on a regular basis.
Sponsorships and fundraising was brought up. The Finance Committee which is headed up by Lad requested a short description of each or our shows for the next two to three years. These descriptions are to be used by the finance committee to provide to potential sponsors. Potential sponsors would then be able to select more easily which shows they would like to participate in. This information will be provided within the next few weeks. A sponsorship inquiry letter was provided to the assistant manager at the Stables Restaurant.
Details for the upcoming members show titled, "Lenawee Artists of All Ages" was discussed. This show runs from May 18 through July 1, 2006. Artists will be asked to provide the 4-5 pieces of art as usual. Tag information should include artist name, title, medium and price. In addition to the typical artist pieces we are also requesting members to provide children's art. Tag information for the children's art should include name, title, medium, age, grade and school. Descriptions of art pieces are optional. Descriptions which are supplied will be mounted to the respective piece of work. Adult pieces of art from artists 16 years of age and older will be hung at an adult eye level. Art pieces provided by persons 15 and younger will be hung at a "childrens" height (approximately 4' above the floor). Exhibiting members who do not have children may adopt art work from a relative, neighbor, or friend. Children's art work is optional but encouraged. All work (adults and children) should be framed and use wire hangers only. The drop off dates for artwork will be Thursday, May 11th 4-8 pm, Friday, May 12th 4-8 pm (sitter needed), Saturday, May 13th 4-8 pm, and Monday, May 15th 4-8 pm (Drop off deadline). No drop off sitter will be scheduled on Mother's Day, which is Sunday, May 14th. Hanging will begin on Tuesday, May 16th beginning at 4pm. Tags will be hung on Wednesday, May 17th beginning at 4 pm. The show opening is Thursday, May 18th 4-8 pm. Friday May 19th there will be a wine and cheese opening reception from 5-7 pm.
We will attempt to begin The "Road Show" concept in the upcoming show. When dropping off work members should pick up an infomation sheet describing the Road Show concept. Artists will be asked if they are willing to show their work at local businesses after the LCVA show is over. Special tags will be placed by Road Show pieces which will inform visitors it is available to be shown at local places of business. Business owners who visit the show will be allowed to select Road Show artwork. Time arrangements will be specified by the artist. The intent of the Road Show concept is to provide LCVA artists more opportunities to show their work in places other than the LCVA gallery and to promote the LCVA gallery around the county. Participation in the Road Show is done voluntarily by the artist.
Maple City Fest dates are forthcoming. The postcard back is being worked on by Cathie. The postcard front is being worked on by Kimberly. It was brought up that it would be ideal if cards could be done sooner however they cannot be finished until we are supplied date information from the Maple City Fest committee. Therefore, we suggested a flyer be made. If Kimberly has the post card front completed we would like to use it in the flyer. If not we will make our own flyer to be ready by April 21, 2006. Volunteers will be needed to help distribute the flyers around Lenawee County. We will make color copies of the flyers at Staples in Adrian.
The Architural Tour guide is being worked on by Cathie.
Janet volunteered to coordinate a bead jewelry kid's activity during Maple City Fest at the gallery. We need 3 more additional volunteers to coordinate children's activities.
Emily and Marjorie collected over a hundred additional addresses for our mailing list. They will provide the excel file to me to forward to Kimberly.
Carol will be creating a newsletter to send to all exhibiting members who do not have email. She will coordinate with Kimberly to see which members do not have email. A newsletter was suggested to help improve communication to all members.
As soon as the card is complete it should be sent to Jill so that she can get it in the Daily Telegram and Access.
The next LCVA Members Committee meeting will be held at the Basil Boys Restaurant in downtown Tecumseh on either June 5th or 6th. at 6:15 pm.
Kathi commented "Wanted to let everyone know about the 88th annual TAA show. Toledo Area Artists, which includes Lenawee county. Slides are due May 5th. You can contact the Toledo Art Museum at 419-255-8000 for information, and prospectus. Also there is a refusal show for entries denied which is a neat show in itself!"
