Domestic Violence Taking Back Our Lives Reception is this friday beginning at 5pm. The pieces in this show are not meant for all persons.
Cathie mentioned she would like to step down as committee chair and I volunteered to step in for her. She will continue to advise and lend her knowledge and experience.
The next members show runs from May 18 to July 1, 2006. The committee agreed to try a new approach to this show. The title will be "Lenawee Artists of All Ages". Exhibiting members will submit pieces as usual. However, kids work will also be submitted. The adult work will be displayed at an adult eye level and the kids work will be displayed at a kid's eye level. We still need to come up with kids activities for Maple City Fest. Cathie will contact the Maple City Fest committee to get dates for their activities. Janet volunteered to run a children's activity. We still need volunteers to help with kids activities. Heidi and Cathie submitted a name to inquire about doing the Adrian Architecture historical tour. Cathie and Kimberly will continue to work on getting cards made. Kimberly will be asked if her and her husband would be willing to design the card again. Emily agreed to help work on adding to the mailing list.
The next members committee meeting location was discussed. Pending reservations we decided to have it at the Stables Restaurant in Blissfield. We decided that with the growing number of committee members it would be too much to ask one person to offer hospitality. Also, we want to expose our organization to businesses to increase our recognition within the community. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 11, 2006 at 6 pm. Please RSVP with me so I can reserve seating. The purpose of this meeting is to finalize the mailing list and iron out the details for the Lenawee Artists of All Ages Show, and Maple City Fest Activities.
The 4th Annual LCVA Box Show will be held August 13 - September 23, 2006. Members discussed participating in the Saline Picture Frame Auction fundraiser for the Food Gatherers Organization. We're doing this to help the food gatherers and to get experience in running a successful fundraiser. Information for this event can be found at www.salinepictureframe.com There was discussion on how we could get an online auction for our Box Show. It isnt that difficult. All we need is a business to lend us a page to load pics and an email address. Bids are submitted via email. Email updates are sent out biweekly. If anyone has ideas for Box Show awards please submit them. If anyone has ideas for a speaker and or juror please submit them. Brief discussion inquiring about local toledo artist. There was also discussion about the possiblity of having a "headliner" artist for each show. It may draw more visitors.
The Holiday Salon Show was not discussed considering it doesnt start until November.
A Road Show concept was discussed. This idea was introduced to increase the opportunities for exhibiting members to display their work in the community. It starts with a members show. Each artist will be given a choice as to whether they would like to make their work available for a "Road Show". A special symbol would be placed by the piece during the member show. Business owners would be invited to attend the show and select Road Show pieces to be displayed in their place of business. The artists would have full control as to how long their work will be available for road shows. The question of insurance arose. We need more information on how to handle insurance.
